Summary Position Description: The Grants Program Manager of The Anna Trust manages the end-to-end process of developing grantmaking strategy, soliciting and/or curating grants, overseeing grantmaking and reporting, and managing all systems associated with grantmaking. The position’s focus is global, with particular attention to low resource situations. The position is full time located in Rome, Italy and reports to The Anna Trust Executive Director.


Responsibilities

Grant Program Development

Strategy

- Annually assess the strategy for grantmaking and recommend adjustments to the Program Committee of the Board. Ensure that strategy covers both short-term needs  of collaboration among congregations and long-term investment in replicable models of collaboration and innovative approaches to model sustainability

- As appropriate develop strategy for engaging in aligned areas of work, e.g., partnerships with organizations also supporting the needs of Catholic elderly sisters

- Develop networks of experts in Catholic sisters’ elder care issues globally who can regularly review and comment on grantmaking strategy relative to best practices in this field.


Content

- With the Program Committee of the Board, and technical experts as needed, determine the content of each grantmaking cycle, themes, specific subject matter, and geographic focus

- Constantly compare The Anna Trust grantmaking to the work of other resource pools to ensure there is no duplication of effort and, in so far as possible, complementary approaches.


Constituency

- Continuously expand the network of collaborations of sisters’ congregations aware of and engaged in the grantmaking program

- Ensure that congregations in vulnerable circumstances have sufficient technical support to become engaged in collaborative ventures.


Grant Program Oversight

- Manage the full cycle of grantmaking, from pre-award planning and application to post-award monitoring and closeout; establish and oversee mile-markers for each grant cycle

- Work closely with and manage improvements in the digital platform through which applications and awards are managed

- Create, manage, participate in teams of experts necessary to curate models of collaboration that have the potential for replicability; oversee the flow of these curated efforts into the grantmaking process

- Work seamlessly with the Finance Manager of The Anna Trust Foundation to ensure efficient and transparent flows of funds with full monitoring and accountability.


Measurement and Evaluation

- Develop grantmaking metrics, and track and report to the Executive Director regularly during grantmaking cycles

- Provide an annual report to the Executive Director for inclusion in the Social Impact Report to the Italian government

- Conduct and/or manage evaluations of individual grants or grantees as well as formal external evaluations of the overall grant making process.


Reporting

- Serve as primary manager for the Program Committee of the Board as regards the grantmaking functions of The Anna Trust Foundation, ensuring that the Program Chair is supported in reporting to the Board of Directors

- Work closely with the fundraising office to ensure that donors are aware of grantmaking progress and success

- Provide any requested data on grantmaking to all levels of the organization for both internal and external use.


Communication and Collaboration

- Ensure close alignment and communication with the Executive Director in the pursuit, and performance of areas under grantmaking responsibilities, including budgeting

- Work closely with fundraising to ensure increased flows of resources for grantmaking

- Work closely with the Coordinator of the Cognitive Impairment Program to prevent duplication with its grantmkaking for cognitive impairment training support in the field

- Work closely with the Communications Assistant to ensure that the grants of The Anna Trust Foundation receive public and professional recognition

- Seek out opportunities to write and speak on behalf of The Anna Trust.


Administration

- Work closely with the Executive Director to track all relevant expenditures against budgets, and ensure that all work is on or under budget

- As needed and requested, take on other areas of The Anna Trust program administration to ensure efficiency and efficacy.

- Knowledgeable about, and comfortable within the culture of, Catholic women religious institutions, leadership, and values

- Collaborative in approach to tasks and willing to contribute in any way to accomplishing organizational goals; values team spirit and teamwork

- Demonstrated ability to work independently, making appropriate independent decisions yet seeking clearances according to organizational policies and procedures as appropriate

- Demonstrated commitment to accuracy and excellence; willingness to establish and be held accountable for goals and work output.


Skills and Experience

- Technical knowledge of grantmaking, with preference for experience in elder care issues and needs

- Successful work in building networks of organizations and leaders globally

- At least 10 years experience in the philanthropic grantmaking process, with preference for global reach

- Multilingual in Italian and at least English and Spanish

- Excellent written and verbal communications skills

- Experience in working within cross-cultural settings

- Willingness to travel extensively.
