The mission of The Anna Trust is to support the collective efforts of Catholic sisters’ congregations globally, especially those in vulnerable contexts, to ensure a healthy dignified aging process and provide the long-term care needed for all Catholic sisters.
Position Description: The Executive Director is responsible for developing and implementing strategy in all areas of program work as well as managing overall operation of The Anna Trust and its financial resources. The position is both that of an experience manager but also a transformational servant leader, capable of inspiring, motivating and guiding collaborative work to ensure the dignity of elderly sisters. Areas of work include grantmaking, education and field-building to expand capacity in elder care, and advocacy including communications to champion the cause of elderly Catholic sisters. The Executive Director is responsible for fundraising, both institutional and major gifts, to ensure sustainability of the Trust. The position reports to the Board of Directors and is located in Rome, Italy.
Roles and Responsibilities
Program Strategy and Implementation
- Develop and oversee organizational strategy and regular strategic planning processes, including the Board of Directors to ensure engagement in and ownership of strategy
- Oversee the grantmaking in collaboration with appropriate staff to ensure conformance to all criteria and standards
- Oversee education, formation, and advocacy programs in collaboration with appropriate staff to ensure that content is of the highest quality and an emphasis is placed on reaching scale and achieving performance metrics.
- Constantly communicate with Superiors General and sisters globally to ensure that programs continue to listen to the concerns of sisters and ensure that programs are aligned with those
- With appropriate experts, lead the design of innovative initiatives that have the potential to leapfrog problems of elderly services finance and service provision
- Develop and oversee performance metrics for the Trust and for its constituent programs
Operations and Management
- Exercise day-to-day management responsibility for the programs, administrative, communications, and finance team of The Anna Trust
- Ensure enforcement of The Anna Trust Employee Handbook and resolve or seek assistance in resolving human resources problems
- Manage all staff hiring and separation
- Ensure the seamless operations of The Anna Trust offices and technology therein.
- Oversee the implementation of any public events associated with The Anna Trust, ensuring brand and mission consistency of visuals and content
Representation
- Represent The Anna Trust at conferences and public events
- Seek out speaking and publishing opportunities to lift the visibility and credibility of The Anna Trust in global and regional forums
Governance
- With the Chair and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors, manage all Board and Board Committee meetings, ensuring productive agendas and timely reporting to the appropriate authorities
- Assist the Board with identifying and responding to governance and reporting challenges that accompany organizational and financial growth
Finance
- Develop annual budgets and oversight of budgetary adherence
- Serve as primary point of contact for all internal and external auditors, ensuring compliance with all regulations and mandatory filings
- Collaborate with the Investment Committee of the Board to ensure superior performance of the endowments associated with the Trust
- Lead fundraising efforts for programs and for the Trust endowment, working with the Development Director to identify opportunities. Lead cultivation, solicitation and stewardship efforts.

Skills and Experience
- Degree in business, health care, gerontology, theology or other area related to the mission of The Anna Trust. Master’s-level preferred.
- At least 10 years as Executive Director or senior manager of a similar organization (e.g. Foundation, NGO, religious congregation) with demonstrated success in growing organizational funding and expanding organizational programming
- Fundraising experience at the Major Gifts level of commitment
- Proficient in English, with preference for competency in Spanish, Italian or French
- Mastery of Microsoft Office products including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Superb verbal and written communication skills. Experience as a public speaker and advocate at the highest levels
- Ability to travel to cultivate, solicit and steward donors and philanthropic institutions and to oversee major grantees
- Willing to undergo required background checks.
