Internal Auditor
At St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor, Gulu (Uganda)

Uganda is the pearl of Africa, a 1000 m high plateau with an ideal climate, beautiful landscapes and nature, a place afflicted by decades of conflicts, now quiet and relatively safe.

St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor (“Lacor Hospital”), is a private-not-for-profit hospital in Northern Uganda, 5 km away from Gulu city. Created in 1959 by Comboni missionaries then developed and directed by Dr. Piero Corti and Lucille Teasdale, it is now a 482-beds facility, one of the largest in the country.

The Hospital’s mission is to offer accessible health care to its patients, especially to the most disadvantaged (women, children, the poor, people with chronic diseases), and to fight diseases and poverty. In 2023/24, Lacor Hospital treated almost 190.000 patients and employed around 700 Ugandan workers. It is a catholic-based Ugandan not-profit NGO that works within the framework of the Uganda Ministry of Health.

Fondazione Piero e Lucille Corti ETS is an Italian entity founded in 1993 by Dr. Piero Corti and Dr. Lucille Teasdale with the mission of providing financial support to Lacor Hospital. Nowadays, the Foundation is one of the major donors of the Hospital, also providing technical support in specific areas such as Administration.

Therefore, the candidate will be employed by Fondazione Corti with an Italian contract and deployed to Lacor Hospital as Internal Auditor in the framework of the Foundation’s technical assistance to Lacor Hospital.
The place of work will be Lacor Hospital and full time residence in the Hospital is required. Accommodation is provided by the Hospital.
Contract conditions will be defined depending on the candidate’s experience. Adequate probation period is foreseen.

The candidate reports to the Board of Directors and will be asked to carry out the following tasks in collaboration with the Finance Manager:

Internal Controls and Risk Assessments: ensuring that controls are carried out regularly to verify that processes are adequate and fully followedProcess Improvement: recommending, improvements to enhance efficiency and effectivenessCompliance: ensuring the hospital adheres to relevant laws, regulations, and internal policiesFinancial and operational audits: developing, implementing and reporting on financial and operational audits to evaluate various hospital functions and processesExternal audits: ensuring, that external audits are planned and carried out regularly and effectively; ensuring that recommendations are followed up during the year

Basic Requirements:
At least 5-years experience in the area of internal auditing or financial management in a medium/big organization;high commitment to working in a low-resource setting and keen interest in adapting to different work cultures and people;very good knowledge of English, both written and spoken; ability to work independently

Preferential elements are:
Experience in working in low-resource settings in an international cooperation setting;experience in the healthcare sector;experience in financial reporting, accounting and/or IFRS/IAS;experience with administrative or accounting software;experience with procurement and store management.
