Job position: Logistic coordinator

Location: Freetown, Sierra Leone

Purpose of the role

The logistic coordinator ensures the smooth functioning of logistics in the country, in support of ongoing projects, ensuring the supervision and training of the logistics staff of the coordination office and the other project sites (mainly in Freetown and Pujehun district).

Key duties

  • organising and coordinating staff transfers and transport of materials
  • supervise and regulate the use of vehicles
  • monitor the logistical and housing organisation of expatriate staff on duty in the various locations
  • supervise warehouse management and the possible customs clearance of materials for projects
  • monitor the supply chain of materials to the project sites
  • planning and supervising the eventual rehabilitation of healthcare facilities, housing and project offices
  • support the logisticians in the procurement and elaboration of the procurement plan
  • co-ordinate, supervise and train logistics staff
  • prepare any technical reports and share them with the project managers
  • collaborate on final reports due to donors, for the specific area of expertise

Requirements

  • Previous experience in logistics; a degree in humanitarian logistics will be considered favourably
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language; knowledge of Italian is an asset
  • Experience in cooperation projects; experience in health projects and and in fragile or resource-limited countries is highly valued.
  • Strong organisational skills and aptitude for problem solving
  • Dynamism, adaptability and flexibility

Condizioni contrattuali

Type of contract: collaboration contract


Salary: TBD according to NGO salary grids and compensation policy (basic salary for the job position, with possible increase based on professional experience, country risk allowance, rural area hardship allowance)

Rest days: 2.5 days for each month of work, for contracts longer than 4 months

Flight ticket: one return flight for the first collaboration for up to 12 months

Health issues: the NGO provides health insurance and covers vaccination costs

Visa and permits: the NGO bears the cost and paperwork for visa

Accommodation: provided by the NGO, it is generally individual, depending on the logistical situation and the availability of accommodation in the workplace

Other costs: the NGO covers costs related to housing utilities and internet; food and personal expenses are covered by the worker

Family policy: where the socio-political context and logistics allow it, international staff may be accompanied by their partner or family. In this case, the NGO provides a salary supplement and guarantees flights, health insurance, visas and permits for dependents and accompanying family members.
